  Below is an email I sent to Hawkins Motors on 21/09/17, it is 01/10/17 and still no reply.... Hello, My father bought a Hyundai 1.0 se 64 registration from your Woodland Road branch in November for £6395 cash, he purchased this car for his wife. Unfortunately his wife passed away unexpectedly September 10th, this has been a complete shock to the whole family. My father bought the car down to your Woodland Road branch on Monday for its MOT and arranged for someone to look at the car after on the hope you would purchase it back for a fair price. I spoke to my father before he came down so he had a fair price in his head taking into account your overheads (valet, service, paperwork etc) we discussed depreciation and also took into account it had 12 months MOT put on, paid for by my father that morning. My fathers wife had only had the car for 10 months and had put 750 miles on it, it is in immaculate condition, my father being in a state of shock over the recent loss of his wife was very upset when the Sales Manager offered to purchase it back for £3500, he was informed that you had a 'glut of cars at present' (aren't you a car sales garage with numerous outlets in Cornwall?) I feel utterly disgusted that you have shown no empathy and I feel you are taking advantage of a vulnerable elderly man. On research I have found a 6 months older,almost identical car, advertised on your website for £6500. I have contacted We Buy Any Car and they have offered £4500, this offer is based purely on the car, no loyalty that he had used them before, no empathy for the situation, they are renowned for offering a ridiculously low price themselves but they still managed to offer a considerable amount more than you did. I have waited 2 days too see if you came back with a more resonable buy back price but I haven't been surprised you didn't, I expect this attitude from the big dealers but not from a company that pride itself on starting and dealing in Cornwall, with a strong family emphasis. It all began in 1933, when William Henry (Billy) Hawkins rode from Truro to the clay village of St Stephen on his Scott Squirrel motorbike and founded a business which today, thrives as Hawkins Motors. It was 1940 when the business began to develop, retailing tractors, cars, motorcycles and cycles and in 1946, Hawkins Motors was appointed agent for British motorcycles Arial, BSA, Norton, Vincent, Scott and ETS. It was 1972 when we were appointed Peugeot’s main dealer for Cornwall, and have since gone on to become a Citroen franchise as well as being the county’s exclusive dealers for Hyundai and Kia. We now have seven locations across Cornwall, but St Stephen still stands as the hub of the business and is far from your average car dealership. A quote from your website just in case you haven't read it recently! My father and his wife prided themselves on buying from local companies, he paid cash and it has cost him £3000 for 10 months use and 700 miles, a high price indeed. He did not choose to be in this situation and I would fully understand if he had bought it back because they had changed their minds but this situation is heart breaking and was beyond his control. They were very happy with the car when they initially bought it and they would have been loyal, reliable customers overtime. I am local and I would never recommend your company, if after purchase you need a sympathetic understanding and a fair price (that's all we wanted) your company will not supply this.
